I recorded this in the late 1990s. It's still my favorite classic infomercial

A reclusive Russian mathematician has been awarded a million dollars for proving a theory which has baffled some of the finest brains for a century. Grigory Perelman came up with the Poincare conjecture which helps in the understanding of three-dimensional shapes. It is one of seven so-called Millennium Problems set out by the Massachusetts-based Clay Mathematics Institute which offered a prize for the solution of any of them. But Perelman who lives in St. Petersburg has little contact with the outside world and is known for ignoring plaudits for his work. He actually first put forward his theory eight years ago, and in 2006 he received mathematics' most prestigious prize, The Fields medal, which he refused to collect. We are now joined live by Sir John Ball. He's the former president of the International Mathematical Union and knows the genius personally.

Salmonella Symptoms Explained after Eggs Recall News – Do you feel like you might be suffering from salmonella symptoms? There are more than 2,000 strains of the bacteria, but only a dozen or so of those strains actually make people sick. In most cases, salmonella poisoning results in gastroenteritis, which is a severe stomach illness.
Sometimes salmonella can result in typhoid fever, which is a disease with a high fever and inflamed intestines. The effects of typhoid fever can be very painful, and if you believe you are suffering from it you need to go see a doctor immediately. Typhoid fever is most found in the developing world.
Salmonella is most often contracted by eating raw or undercooked meat, poultry and eggs. The most recent outbreak that has affected individuals most heavily in California was spawned by contaminated eggs.
The distributor has gone on to recall all of the eggs, which span across a dozen different brands. The eggs were also served in restaurants and at events in the California area. So far, the outbreak has led to more than 35 hospitalizations in the state.

The Atlanta Braves are currently leading the NL East and would want to keep it that way. In an attempt to further beef up their offense, the Braves acquired first baseman Derrek Lee from the Chicago Cubs. The Braves did not have to pay much in return as they let go of three prospects, all pitchers to the Cubs but none showing great promise.
Lee initially vetoed a Cubs trade with the Los Angeles Angels before the deadline. The Brave-Cubs deal seemed more attractive to Lee as the Braves are in playoff contention, their first in five years.
Granted that the 34-year old Lee stays healthy, he can provide more offense to an already strong team. His coming to Atlanta can make up for injuries to Troy Glaus and Chipper Jones.

The Mountain West Conference extended an invitation Wednesday morning and Nevada officials accepted just before calling a news conference on the Reno campus, school president Milton Glick said.
"This is a momentous day for the University of Nevada," he told reporters.
"I think it has long been the goal of our athletic department at the university, this community and the Board of Regents to have the traditional rivalry between UNLV and Nevada be enhanced and that we should be in the same conference," Glick said.
"I think people have been waiting a long time for this day. We think it is really a game changer for us."
Nevada and UNLV played together in the Big West Conference before UNLV went to the WAC in 1996, then became a founding member of the Mountain West in 1999. Nevada left the Big West for the WAC in 2000.
Glick said the move also will keep intact a growing rivalry between the Wolf Pack and Boise State, which announced in June it was leaving next year for the Mountain West. He said it has yet to be determined whether Nevada will join the Mountain West in 2011 or 2012.
Dr Laura used the N word on her radio show to make a philosophical point. She apologized the next day. A week later she announced she's quitting her radio show which is the 3rd most popular show on talk radio. Quitting radio is a mistake. Laura is a voice of reason. She's tough on all her callers - she doesn't coddle them. She identifies right from wrong. Perhaps if there is a flood of public support for her to stay on the air, she will reconsider.
The official announcement of the new phone — dubbed the G2 — spurred Web searches for the device and made it a trending topic on Google. But the carrier temporarily pulled down a new promotional site for the phone after discovering that the website showed some visitors the names and email addresses of other people registering for information about the device.
The G2 is the follow-up to 2008’s G1, the first phone based on Google’s Android operating system, and T-Mobile promises that it “will deliver tight integration with Google.” The carrier also is touting the phone as the first to take full advantage of the faster speeds on its new HSPA+ network, which is speedier than regular 3G.
Wednesday morning T-Mobile put up a webpage to promote its upcoming phone, giving just a couple of teaser paragraphs and a sign-up form for people who wanted to be emailed with more information.
But the site was soon taken down, prompting PCWorld to ask “What’s the deal with T-Mobile’s G2 launch?”
For a brief time after the registration site launched this morning, some individuals may have seen another random person’s name and e-mail address during the sign-up process,” a T-Mobile spokesman said. “When the issue was identified, we immediately took action to disable the site until the issue was resolved.
Cruz danced and dodged throughout the 25-minute affair, scored timely takedowns and eked out a split decision over Joseph Benavidez in the WEC 50 "Cruz vs. Benavidez 2" headliner on Wednesday at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas. Two of the three judges sided with the champion by 48-47 and 49-46 scores; a third scored it 48-47 for Benavidez.
"I just concentrated on doing what I do best: staying hard to hit," said Cruz, who defeated Benavidez by unanimous decision the first time the two met. "Obviously, it didn't work out too well in all the exchanges, but that's five rounds and I don't look too bad I suppose."
In a tactical bout that was not short on action, the world-ranked challenger provided Cruz with a stern test. The first three rounds were almost too close to call, highlighted by a beautiful flying knee from Cruz and some crisp counterpunching from Benavidez. Dealing with a cut near his hairline, the Team Alpha Male rep appeared to break the Cruz's nose and opened a nasty lateral gash across its bridge with a knee from the clinch in the fourth round. Blood spilled from the wound, but Cruz pressed the action and scored the fourth of his five takedowns in the match.
Facebook users carrying their smart phones will soon be able to check in to real-life locations such as restaurants, pubs or live concerts. The new feature is called Facebook Places. Sharing your whereabouts with friends is its main focus.

Facebook is following in the footsteps of younger social-networking sites by adding a "Places" feature that lets you share your real-world location with online friends.
As company representatives explained at an event at Facebook's Palo Alto, Calif., offices and wrote in a blog post, you'll be able to tap a "Check In" button to announce your presence at a physical location to your Facebook friends. Your check-in will then appear on that location's "place page," on your profile and in your friend's News Feeds.
Your pals, in turn, can tag you as being with them, after which you can remove that tag--similar to the way Facebook's photo-tagging feature operates.
