Oil Spill Gulf of Mexico 2010 – BP Oil Spill 2010

Oil Spill Gulf of Mexico 2010 – BP Oil Spill 2010.  The BP oil spill is causing a lot of economic and environmental problems for the Gulf Coast region.  Not only is there a 10 day ban on fishing, but also dead turtles are washing up on shore. In addition, in areas of New Orleans people complain about the stench of oil.

Summer rentals have been canceled and the entire fishing and shrimping industries could be facing an unprecedented loss.  Already states are pushing to declare fishing disasters so that those affected by the oil spill can receive federal aid that is set aside for them.

Although BP said that they did not cause the accident which led up to the oil spill, they are responsible for it, and the US government will make sure that they pay for all the damage done.

Currently there are a few theories on how to stop the flow of oil into the water. One way would be to drill relief wells to re-direct the flow of oil.

Another theory is to make domes that cap the oil spill and then direct oil up to ships and haul the oil off that way.  Still yet, there’s a long way to go before this spill is over.

And then we have to wonder how the oil that has already poured in to the ocean will be cleaned up.  The oil can- and will – kill fragile ecosystems of marine life as food sources become coated with oil and act as poison to the larger animals that consume them.

Grand Ole Opry flood - Opryland hotel flood pictures.nashville flooding

Due to this past weekend's disastrous flooding and the rise of the Cumberland river to new heights, Nashville Tennessee has witnessed vast damage and even deaths.  Various residents have been displaced everywhere including the famed Opryland hotel which was forced to evacuate about 1,500 guests to a high school so they could avoid rising waters.  The damages caused in the Grand Ole Opry flood has been shown via Opryland hotel flood pictures that have been recently released.

Luckily, everyone was safely evacuated with no injuries reported, but the hotel itself and surrounding areas are still full of flood waters.  You can view a CNN slideshow of images from inside and around Opryland hotel here.  The dirty flood waters have filled up the inside and outside areas of the hotel and shopping area that many people choose to spend their Nashville vacations, conferences or business trips at.

I vacationed with family in the Nashville Tennessee area several years back and found the Opryland hotel to be spectacular and beautiful inside.  We toured the various shops and indoors scenery.  It's hard to imagine its areas submerged by water.  After seeing the recent Opryland hotel flooding photos, it's unfortunate to see the damages that are being caused to this scenic attraction in Tennessee.

Nashville Flooding: News coming out of Tennessee isn't good at all.  The capital city was hit yesterday on May 1, 2010 with a torrential rainstorm that lasted for over 24 hours and dumped over a foot of water on the area in that timespan.

The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) has put a halt to road work and recommends area residents to check out their website for the latest updates.

The area has been the target of rising water levels that have crippled driving conditions in the area.  Check out some of the footage that is starting to come out online.
