Carrie Underwood was named entertainer of the year at the 45th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards, which were held tonight in Las Vegas.
My phone is buzzing,” said Underwood, as she took the stage to accept the night’s top honor.
The show kicked off with a performance by Miranda Lambert and Underwood in which the women were joined by fiddler Charlie Daniels, Brad Paisley and John Fogerty. That’s how you start a television show, son,” Daniels said at the end of the number.
Lambert was one of the night’s big winners, taking home awards for album of the year (for Revolution”), video of the year, and top female vocalist. Lady Antebellum won five awards, including top vocal group, record of the year, and song of the year.
The show included performances by Tim McGraw, Lady Antebellum, Billy Currington, Kenny Chesney, Laura Bell Bundy and others. It was hosted by Reba McEntire, who suggested that some country artists had drawn ideas about writing songs about cheaters from people in the news. I’d like to thank Tiger Woods and Jesse James for inspiring us all,” McEntire said.
Toby Keith sang Cryin’ for Me (Wayman’s Song),” a tribute to the late Wayman Tisdale, a basketball player and jazz bass guitarist.
Taylor Swift-who was famously interrupted by rapper Kanye West at the MTV Video Music Awards last year-was introduced by hip hop star LL Cool J before her performance. She’s fearless, she’s talented, she’s Taylor Swift,” LL Cool J said.
