Yes, for a day it is kind of a hassle, but the benefits for me are worth it ["Poll: Daylight Savings Time 2010 Not Worth the Hassle," usnews.com]. It gives more daylight in the evening to enjoy the outdoors. Running, biking, and walking, which leads to better health for me and keeps me more active. I have time after work to do the lawn, wash my car, or other jobs outside. The thing I hate the most about it is the debate.
I wake up tired for a month after we start Daylight Saving Time. I don't see any benefit to it. Lighting usage accounts for 3 percent of residential energy consumption in the U.S. So we aren't saving the planet with DST either. But I doubt it will change, because its not a huge deal to most people. Although I'd love to see it in a proposition in my state come November.

Daylight Saving Time these days seems to be a result of the desire to extend summer fun. However, what about those that want their fun in the morning hours. Has anyone stopped to imagine what the world would be like without DST? Summers would still have long days with opportunities for outdoor fun. Yet we would have more light in the morning. Many, many people are "morning" folk and would really appreciate sunlight at 6 a.m. Not to mention the current stress around children waiting for school buses in the dark. For those of us that cherish morning daylight, DST is simply an assault on the morning.

Having the day end earlier in winter probably has more to do with the outbreak of seasonal affective disorder among those in northern climes than anything else. Who cares if we have to go to work in the dark? It's when we get home that we need the daylight, and we should be adding an hour of daylight at the end of those dark wintry days. I'd much rather it get dark at 8 p.m. in the summer, and stay light until 7 p.m. in the winter, wouldn't you all? Wouldn't it be great to get home from work and still be able to see the world outside without electric lights? How does making our already long summer days an hour longer make any sense?
